Take apart

1

Remove the two screws from the bottom (or in the case of the two earliest versions, one screw), and then unclip the two plastic clips from the back. At this point the shell should pop right off. The motor on the oldest version is held inside the shell by the smokestack (which functions as a screw). Unscrewing the smokestack will allow you to pull all that stuff out of there.

Remove the screw on the underside.

Remove the motor by pulling it upwards.

Put thin tape on the sides as seen on the picture, to insulate the metal and to avoid a short when the motor is fitted.

5

6

Place the motor and fix it in place with the screw on the bottom.

Shorten the wires and solder them on the contacts. Quick in-quick out, you don’t want to melt any plastic. Keep the blue wire at the right.

After testing the model, close the housing and enjoy the improved driving capabilities.

Digital

When all works well, you can fit a decoder. Train-O-Matic makes excellent small decoder, available here from the Tramfabriek.

For optimal performance, you need to change some CV settings on a decoder. For several decoder brands, the ideal CV settings can be found by clicking here.
